Finally, I Gave My Mind a Much-Needed Break

From high resistance to calmness

It all starts with brushing my teeth in the morning.

“What are you going to do?”

“How did you miss that yesterday?”

“Why do you keep on forgetting things?”

Don’t imagine it as an angry wife shouting at her husband. It’s my mind angrier at me than anyone else could be.

I kept thinking about what was next; there was no break at all. I knew it was bad, but I couldn’t stop.

This continued for months.

As all good things must end, bad things must end too.

Finally, that day came. How did I pause and take it seriously?

I was on a call with a friend about the recent rain. Suddenly, I tried to remember a place I knew well.

I said, “That place… place…”

I can’t remember it.

Thankfully, my friend said the name, and I thought, ‘Wait! How did I miss that?’

When you have too many things to do, or you think a lot, it’s difficult for your mind to work normally.

Yes! Your brain is mysterious and powerful, but don’t you think it deserves some rest?

“When thoughts take over your mind, it affects your sleep, work and relationships.”

My uncle once said, “You should make use of your youth; you should run and never stop.”

The problem with this kind of advice is that it often makes you feel more overwhelmed than motivated.

In life, every stage is important, from observing more as a child to reflecting more as an old person.

You have to live each phase to move to the next phase. You can’t jump or fast-forward it.

I watch YouTube videos at 2x speed — just like I’ve been racing through my days.

I’ve asked a lot of people this question: ‘Are your days running by too quickly?’

Sadly, the most common answer is, “Ah! Yes, I think so.”

That’s true; most of us live in autopilot mode. From morning to night, we are finishing our regular tasks like a machine.

This needs to stop. If you don’t want to regret it in the future, start acting now.

So, what can we do to break free from this 2x mode?

Mindfulness!

Come on! Don’t think it is a waste of time.

If you think it’s simple, try this: for a day, start noticing all your activities from morning to night.

Start with brushing your teeth, eating, and walking. Notice whether you can successfully do this or not.

Trust me, it’s not easy. One day is a big task, especially for me, even today.

So, start with one thing at a time.

Mindful eating is the best starter — eat your food without watching TV or using your mobile.

Then slowly move towards walking. Notice your footsteps, surroundings, and the air you breathe.

I love walking with my headphones on, but I love it even more when I take them off.

Trust me, you won’t believe how creative you can be when you walk alone. Ideas flow one after another.

I have slowed down my thoughts. It’s hard to put into words — like standing under the open sky, not thinking, just admiring its endless beauty.

The calmness and inner happiness found in those silent moments can truly make your day.

Now, it’s your time to take up the challenge.

Have a great day!
